Australian Kangaroo 1 oz Silver Coin

What is the Australian Kangaroo 1 oz Silver Coin?

Minted every year by the Perth Mint of Australia, the Australian Silver Kangaroo was first produced in 2016.  These coins feature a kangaroo on one side of the coin and Queen Elizabeth II on the other.

Description

First produced in 2016, this bullion coin was created in the likeness of the popular Kookaburra and Koala coins, which were minted before the Kangaroo. The coin contains 1 oz of .9999 fine silver,  the same silver content as Canada’s Maple Leaf silver coin. As the largest marsupial around, the kangaroo is beloved by many. This animal is considered to be unique, strong, and, by many accounts, exotic. It’s also considered to be an animal of great power. When the kangaroo jumps, it jumps high with great force. Also, it is an animal that has a nurturing, maternal side – the kangaroo carries its child in a pouch over its stomach. Though the kangaroo is beloved in Australia, it is also recognized and loved all over the world. Another popular marsupial that hails from Australia is the Koala. In 2007, Australia minted its Silver Koala coin, which is also popular and sought after by collectors. What makes all of these coins attractive is its investment potential – silver bullion coins are being sought by investors all over the world in order to make money from their future sale.

Reverse

Stuart Devlin designed the reverse of the coin, featuring a red kangaroo. The coin is interesting and pleasing to the eye, with a backdrop of lines that radiate or beam – just as the sun does. Written on the coin is “AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO.” At the bottom is the date the coin was minted plus its weight and purity: “1 OZ 9999 SILVER.” Like on the obverse, these are all written in caps.

Obverse

On the coin’s obverse is a side profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. It was designed by Jody Clark, a designer with The British Royal Mint. On the coin you see the Queen’s shoulders and she’s wearing her Royal Diamond Diadem, a necklace and dangling earrings. The obverse bears three inscriptions: the monarch featured on the coin: “ELIZABETH II,” the name of the country that issued the coin: “AUSTRALIA,” and its face value: “1 DOLLAR.” All in caps.
